There seems to be a lot of Dual Core games that are being ported over to the single core powered Xperia PLAY. Is this because it's such an efficient single core? The Qualcomm Scorpion processor can definitely be overclocled to 1.6GHz quite happily and their graphics processor is what's been delivering us some great titles for the past 8 months. Well I like to think so. there is a lot of people out there who are criticised the PLAY for it's lack of Dual core but very little supports it, in fact the only game I am gutted to not have is Grand Theft Auto 3 and even then I have heard rumours of it still coming to play.
So this super lush looking shoot em up is called Shadowgun. You take on the role of a space age bounty hunter that makes Dog look like catwoman. You are after some evil dude called DR Edgar Simon who has created an army of evil mutants. Not sure what he did wrong, maybe unpayed parking tickets or something. so you must shoot the crap out of some bizarre looking baddies with actually very detailed artificial intelligence and you will come across some pretty bad ass looking giants, machines and insane gunners. The storyline is never going to win an oscar I know, but when it comes to bullets and blood, that doesn't matter.
So how does it control? The analogue controls are nice but a little too slow for my liking, I have found myself in numerous situations where I am trying to aim and it's just taking forever. Is there an auto aim feature I have not yet seen? It's also the same reason I have a bit of trouble getting back up from crouching behind a wall for shotting baddies. There is a few scenes where you have to jump from one hiding place to the next before getting destroyed by drone guns nd every second counts. The more I play this game however, I am starting to get used to it and making these mistakes less. Perhaps I am just too dahm used to other shoot em ups that I have forgotten the art of mastering newer control methods.
With the only negative comment out the way, it can leave me to continue praising this game. Seriously, the graphics of this game are just great to look at. You stand in the middle of a room and just look around. The details of the walls, the rails and lighting. Wait till you come across some of the bosses, you will be dropping weight in an unhigenic way! Shadowgun is a truly brilliant video game. Because of it's lack of compramise when it comes to graphics and performance, you will find very little looking as fresh as this. In fact I would put it on par if not slightly higher than Dead space. So forget PS1 graphics, we are talking PS2 visuals and rendering.
Just pick and play it, it's so good you will not regret the purchase I promise you.
