New PS Certified section

Xperia Gamer expands to include other Playstation Certified devices.
The Xperia PLAY was the worlds first Playstation Certified device, ever! Which as exciting as it sounded originally, it meant diddly squat until well... this year.
The PS Certification is a platform which has been so up in the air for so long but its becoming a little clearer now. THE PS Certified bit of the Xperia PLAY means it is an authorized Playstation product to run original Playstation content. Thus, having access to the new Playstation store to download games and demos directly from your PSN (Playstation Network) account. This platform was also announced to be available on the Sony tablets and more recently on Sony's new smartphones the Xperia S and ION. In fact, they have even said that the Xperia Arc S will become PS Certified in an update.
So it looks like the certification was nothing to do with the game pad on the PLAY then, as you can apparently play these PS games on touch screen, just like unofficial Playstation emulators we've seen before. The control pad will appear on the touch screen or with the Tablet P you have a whole screen dedicated to being a controller in a Ninty DS style form factor. This all sounds pretty cool but all of us PLAY owners know full well, you can't beat having the game pad.

Well, you probably didn't know this but Sony have recently done an update for the Tablet S, which allows you to pair your PS3 controller via Bluetooth and then play these games on a whole 9" screen. Now that is pretty cool! Even cooler is this functionality might be available for the smartphones too, like the Arc S & new 2012 models. So if you have say an Xperia S with HDMI out to the Tv and the PS3 pad connected via Bluetooth. Then you indeed folks have what we call, a micro console. The kind of functionality we all wanted from our Xperia PLAYs. I really wish the PLAY had HDMI.

In CES. Sony were showing the new Xperia ION as a micro console with PS3 Pad.
So it's starting to look like that these games we have purchased on the PS store with the PLAY (when its out), will then also work on other PS Certified devices like Tablet S or even the new PS Vita. This is just an assumption at the moment, but if you look at our Playstation Store app review, evidence is there in the screen shots. At the moment on the Tablet S's Playstation store, it lists the games as Tablet S & Xperia PLAY. Also from our own screenshots of the PS store, we can see that G-Police is listed as Xperia PLAY only as an exclusive.
This new PS Certified family menas that we have created a whole dedicated section to the platform and everything about it. The devices, the news and the games. Every game that is made available to this platform, we shall list and review as usual but also add compatibility to which certified devices it works with. There shall also be some great features to come from Playstation certified like the PS integration.

I shall leave you with one last little though. Now we have all these great new certified devices. There should be a whole army of games and original content coming our way in the next few months. For all of you Xperia PLAY fans out there like me, that have waited patiently for more than 8 PSone games... our patience shall be rewarded.
