Cyanogenmod have not stopped supporting the Xperia PLAY and they have officially just released version 9.

For those of you that regularly visit our rooted section for Xperia PLAY, you will know that CyanogenMod 9 has been there for quite sometime.  The difference now is that it is no longer a BETA version and is a full official release with approval from the CyanogenMod team.  So it is perfectly stable and runs incredibly well.  From our experience too, it runs smoother than any of the official Sony Ice Cream Sandwich roms if there ever did some out.  Plus they add their own tweaks of excellence on, such as their own music player which frankly is rather nice.

If you have a rooted Xperia PLAY and want to get on this Rom for a slice of Ice Cream Sandwich.  Then check out our article in the rooted section for full details on how to install and which Kernel to use also.  Or if you don't need the help and just want to download it, then head over to the CyanogenMod download pages where you can find the direct download.  This really is a great experience for those of you that are dissapointed with not seeing ICS officially on Xperia PLAY.  But... do not forget there is a reason for it.  The Xperia PLAY forst and foremost is a gaming device.  Sony's framework on Gingerbread for the controls do not work well on ICS.  So be warned that no developer can confirm support for their games on ICS as it's just tooo difficult.

We can't Guarantee ICS will perform better for gamers needs but it's so slick for everyday users.
